Mary's Place

A web page about the life of a lady who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Name:
Location: Piedmont, Oklahoma, United States

I live in Piedmont, OK, with my Husband of 50 years who has been very supportive. We have 2 sons,David and Kenny, 6 grandkids, and 6 great grandkids. I enjoy feeding and watching the birds and squirrels. Before I was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I ran a Licensed Day Care Home for Infants for 15 years. I noticed I wasn't able to remember important things and having problems with my speech. I was experiencing severe headaches. I would get lost. I didn't know how to use the computer. At the age of 55, I told my doctor. I was sent for an MRI. which showed a large amount of shrinkage. I went to a neurologist who sent me for two days of testing. I was diagnosed with dementia of the Alzheimer's type. My husband and I were both in shock. I had to give up my job. I went to see a social worker. I've taken Aricept for 11 years. I can now use the computer and even do this web page. I also host a chat room for dementia patients. This is a very lonely disease. I don't want anyone to feel as lonely as I did when I was diagnosed (I thought I was the only one over 50 that had Alzheimer's). In 2006 I started taking Namenda. Also I was told I have a mixed dementia, Alzheimer's/Vascular.

It is the end of another month. It was four years ago that we moved into this house. It is hard to believe we have lived in this house four years already… This morning I watched a movie “Rawhide” and after chat I shelled peas for a good hour, then I helped fix supper… Erin called and she is getting anxious for little Kooper Allen’s arrival on Wednesday unless he decides to come before then. Kenny called and invited us to come up and watch the fights with them. I may go tonight since they will be earlier than usual... Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Our deepest sympathies go out to Judy, Dewey Jr., and Mary Beth on the loss of their husband and father. Dewey is our brother-in-law in Clemmons, North Carolina who lost his battle of cancer this morning. Dewey was a great guy. He always read my journal and would vote for my site. http://www.angelfire.com/ok4/mari5113/index.html When we went to visit them a few years ago Dewey bought me a large turtle for my garden. I think of him every time I see it in the Rose Garden. He knew how much I liked turtles. All who knew him will miss him… This morning I went for my treatment. I hosted the DASNI chat and the rest of the day I have rested. I will pick peas later this evening… Richard in Houston phoned me… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Another busy day for me… I finished up the laundry, answered e-mails and went to the DASNI chat. Then we went to Dr. Corman’s office to have the skin mass removed. When I asked Dr. Corman what he thought it was. He said right now he was calling it a weird skin mass. It indeed looked weird. The nurse numbed me up real good and the Doctor explained what he was going to do. He got it all cut out and sewed me up. I will go back next week to have the sutures removed. He sent it off so I should know what they find out Monday… I was late getting to my chiropractor appointment because the appointment with Dr. Corman took longer than we thought and he was running a little behind. But Dave walked across the street and told her I was running late and she was nice about it. My neck and shoulders are starting to feel better already… We went to Aldi’s and picked up a few groceries and then went by to see Alfred and Martha. Alfred got a bad report about the Chemo treatments that he was getting. Now they are going to try something else. This treatment will be done in the doctor’s office… I feel so bad for him and Martha, also for Dewey and Judy. Sometimes life just isn’t fair… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

I went for my appointment this morning with the chiropractor. She was very nice and she said I really had some problems. She was able to give me a little relief today. I will be going back daily until she gets me better and she was sure she could make me better… I went to the DASNI chat, did three loads of laundry, fed the roses and other flowers, and fixed supper… When I was getting laundry out of the dryer I tore the growth that was on my arm and it bled. We went by Dr. Corman’s office and he will remove it tomorrow before my therapy treatment. I am always hurting myself. I have bruises all over my body and can never remember how I got them… Dave and I went across the street to look in the new home that soon will be finished… David called… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

This morning I had an appointment with Dr. Baugh, my Pulmonary Doctor. She was running late so I spent an hour in the waiting room. I don’t wait well any more but I got through it by reading magazines… We stopped by Target before coming home. Everyone there was friendly and helpful except the cashier that was checking us out… I spent most of the afternoon on the couch resting. Congratulations Josh!!! Josh is our grandson who graduated from Piedmont High School today… Dave and I went to the graduation. I wouldn’t have missed it. Dave planted the purple phlox that I received for Mother’s Day… The nurse called Dave and gave him the report on his biopsy. It wasn’t cancer but it was the kind that turns into cancer. He will go back in two years for another colon scope… The Schwan man came and I gave him a good order… I deleted a bunch of emails. I let them pile up and it feels good to have them all deleted; now I am going to try and delete them as I read them… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma
