Mary's Place

A web page about the life of a lady who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Name:
Location: Piedmont, Oklahoma, United States

I live in Piedmont, OK, with my Husband of 50 years who has been very supportive. We have 2 sons,David and Kenny, 6 grandkids, and 6 great grandkids. I enjoy feeding and watching the birds and squirrels. Before I was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I ran a Licensed Day Care Home for Infants for 15 years. I noticed I wasn't able to remember important things and having problems with my speech. I was experiencing severe headaches. I would get lost. I didn't know how to use the computer. At the age of 55, I told my doctor. I was sent for an MRI. which showed a large amount of shrinkage. I went to a neurologist who sent me for two days of testing. I was diagnosed with dementia of the Alzheimer's type. My husband and I were both in shock. I had to give up my job. I went to see a social worker. I've taken Aricept for 11 years. I can now use the computer and even do this web page. I also host a chat room for dementia patients. This is a very lonely disease. I don't want anyone to feel as lonely as I did when I was diagnosed (I thought I was the only one over 50 that had Alzheimer's). In 2006 I started taking Namenda. Also I was told I have a mixed dementia, Alzheimer's/Vascular.

This morning I watched church services on television. Then I watched a couple movies. “Beach Party” and “Strangers When We Meet” Both are old movies… I haven’t been worth much today. I think I am tired from all I did yesterday… We found out today from our realtor that one of the houses that we really liked was sold. We were disappointed we didn’t get it, but know it must have happened for a reason. We still have another one we like and plan on taking another look at it tomorrow… I went with Dave to Kenny’s hangar to take the last load. I know Kenny will be happy to go to work tomorrow so he can rest. He has really been working hard… It was a warm 93 degrees and Kenny treated us to an Ice Cream sandwich. Thanks Kenny… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

This morning I watched a movie “The Ugly Dachshund”… After lunch we got ready to to go to Choctaw to a 50th Anniversary party for Carl and Pat McBrayer. They have been our friends for a long time. They live in our old neighborhood area and they were excited that we were planning on moving back in that area… Since we were in David and Lori’s neighborhood we went by to say hello to them. We got to see and get hugs from the great grandkids. Granddaughter Macey wanted Dave and I to look at their playhouse. I asked her if it was cleaned up and she said yes. It was nice and tidy… We came home and had a quick supper then we went up to see if we could help Kenny and Kathy. Kenny flew his plane to the Cashion barn for storage… I am really tired tonight… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

We were there for five hours and I really enjoyed it and so did Dave… I was way too tired to think about posting a journal last night… It sure does feel like fall and beginning to look like it too. My mums are blooming… I got groomed today then we went for a drive in the country. We met Kenny out at his home site. They almost have his building finished… I helped Dave fix supper… I called George... Thank you Gary for the comment you left. Piedmont is just northwest Oklahoma City... I have been confused all day. It seems like Saturday instead of Friday to me. I even called my friend Jean to wish her a Happy Birthday and her birthday is tomorrow… I have spent most of the day outside. Dave was busy putting in new flooring in his trailer and I was able to help a little bit… I pulled weeds out of another flowerbed. Seems liked I get one bed cleared and soon it is time to start all over again… We had a fun chat today. We are making plans to go to a Hawaii. I sure hope it works out so we can all go… I fixed supper and went back outside to pull more weeds… We saw a cow that got loose and was on Kenny’s acreage. It isn’t easy for him not hearing and for me repeating myself all the time… I did laundry, chatted with my online friends, fixed supper, and tonight we went to a planning meeting in Piedmont… I called Barbara Ruth to wish her a Happy Birthday… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma
