Mary's Place

A web page about the life of a lady who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Name:
Location: Piedmont, Oklahoma, United States

I live in Piedmont, OK, with my Husband of 50 years who has been very supportive. We have 2 sons,David and Kenny, 6 grandkids, and 6 great grandkids. I enjoy feeding and watching the birds and squirrels. Before I was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I ran a Licensed Day Care Home for Infants for 15 years. I noticed I wasn't able to remember important things and having problems with my speech. I was experiencing severe headaches. I would get lost. I didn't know how to use the computer. At the age of 55, I told my doctor. I was sent for an MRI. which showed a large amount of shrinkage. I went to a neurologist who sent me for two days of testing. I was diagnosed with dementia of the Alzheimer's type. My husband and I were both in shock. I had to give up my job. I went to see a social worker. I've taken Aricept for 11 years. I can now use the computer and even do this web page. I also host a chat room for dementia patients. This is a very lonely disease. I don't want anyone to feel as lonely as I did when I was diagnosed (I thought I was the only one over 50 that had Alzheimer's). In 2006 I started taking Namenda. Also I was told I have a mixed dementia, Alzheimer's/Vascular.

I didn't do a journal last night because we were having storms... The doctor has put me on home health care now. The nurse was here this morning to visit me... I haven't felt well today... David and Lori's dog Jettina went to doggy heaven this morning. We know how bad that hurts... I am going to take a break from here... Goodnight All... Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

The nurse called this morning to let Dave know that he can double up on his Uloric, the gout medicine. Sure hope that will help him. She also said that I passed my physical but I do have another urinary tract infection. I started on an antibiotic 500mg 3 times a day (Cephalexin Generic for Keflex) for it today.... Dave and I went to get groomed and the the local pharmacy... I cleaned the bathroom, did laundry, fixed supper, and watched a movie ... Goodnight All... Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

This morning I took a shower then we left to go to the doctors without any breakfast. I had a physical and Dave had lab work done... After we finished there we went to I Hop for breakfast... We went to Lowe's where Dave bought me a really neat bird feeder and a 40 lb bag of black oiled sunflower seeds. The birds should be happy for awhile... We then went to Dr Davoili's for Dave to get his stitches removed and I got injections in both my knees... After that we got the car washed and picked up a few groceries at Braum's.... When we got home, Dave's nurse was waiting for him in the drive way. I fixed supper and I am really tired tonight... Please keep our friend Dean in Marietta, GA in your prayers. Dean is dealing with cancer... Goodnight All... Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

My computer got a virus, so that is the reason for me being gone so long. I lost everything. GRRRR

I gave the dogs a bath today and they were dirty dogs… The ice cream truck came and took us for ice cream and out to see their house. It is almost all bricked now… I called Carole and it was great hearing her voice again. She hopes to go to assisted living this coming Friday… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Dave had his knee surgery on Thursday. David took us and brought us back home. I was thankful to have my Kindle to read while I waited on Dave to come back from surgery. It helped keep me occupied… Dave is doing really well. The nurses continue to come in and check on him… We have been watching movies that we are getting from Netflix. We have watched 4 Christmas’s, Marley and Me, and UP so far… We are trying to stay warm. They are saying one more night of this single digit temperature and then it should warm up some. I sure hope so… I am keeping busy; no nurses are to come this weekend… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Happy New Year!!! I was awake when the New Year came in. Not because I wanted to be but because my knees were hurting so bad that I couldn’t sleep. Dave gave me a couple pills and that helped. I am blaming it on the Blue Moon… Kenny called last night and invited us to come over. We went over for a little while and I was so cold while I was there. Kathy covered me with her heated throw and Kenny made me a cup of hot chocolate… I fixed a turkey today and also opened up a can of black eye peas for us to eat for good luck… Dave had one nurse come in today. I don’t think we will have any more until Monday… I washed the dog’s beds and Dave gave the dogs a bath… I don’t like this cold weather. I am ready for spring to get here… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma
