Mary's Place

A web page about the life of a lady who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Name:
Location: Piedmont, Oklahoma, United States

I live in Piedmont, OK, with my Husband of 50 years who has been very supportive. We have 2 sons,David and Kenny, 6 grandkids, and 6 great grandkids. I enjoy feeding and watching the birds and squirrels. Before I was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I ran a Licensed Day Care Home for Infants for 15 years. I noticed I wasn't able to remember important things and having problems with my speech. I was experiencing severe headaches. I would get lost. I didn't know how to use the computer. At the age of 55, I told my doctor. I was sent for an MRI. which showed a large amount of shrinkage. I went to a neurologist who sent me for two days of testing. I was diagnosed with dementia of the Alzheimer's type. My husband and I were both in shock. I had to give up my job. I went to see a social worker. I've taken Aricept for 11 years. I can now use the computer and even do this web page. I also host a chat room for dementia patients. This is a very lonely disease. I don't want anyone to feel as lonely as I did when I was diagnosed (I thought I was the only one over 50 that had Alzheimer's). In 2006 I started taking Namenda. Also I was told I have a mixed dementia, Alzheimer's/Vascular.

He is such a good puppy… It was in the 70’s today but that is going to change tomorrow… I played dominoes on pogo with my friend Martha… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Sammy tugging at Heather's sock

SAMMY

I forgot to mention last night after we finished eating at the restaurant I walked out to the car without my purse. It was a good thing that Dave was looking after me. He came out to the car carrying it…
I watched the entire movie of “Gone With The Wind” this morning. I have seen it several times before. They just don’t make movies like that anymore… We were up at Kenny and Kathy’s when Josh and Heather came home. We wanted to be there when they saw the puppy for the first time. They were both so thrilled… While we were there sitting out on their back patio we saw a deer run across the field… I didn’t get anything accomplished today but tomorrow I have too… I called Martha… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

He is so cute, ten weeks old, and I think they are naming him Sammy. Josh and Heather don’t know about him yet. They will get to meet him tomorrow when they come home from their other parent’s home. They are just going to fall in love with him… We went out to eat fajitas with Kenny and Kathy… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

I woke up tired this morning and part of it was because of all the excitement the past two days. I had a hard time falling asleep last night and that didn’t help any… We have been enjoying the leftovers today… I folded the laundry that I found in the dryer and put it away… It was such a pretty day that we didn’t want to stay home so went into town to do some errands… I planted the hollyhock seeds that Richard gave me when we were in Tennessee. The hollyhocks remind me of my childhood years. Mom had them… One of our neighbors Cliff, Kelly, and daughters came by and brought us an early Christmas gift, a beautiful Poinsettia… Richard called and Kenny came down to pick up his birthday shoes that were delivered today. He was happy with them… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Happy 58th Anniversary Perry and Mayselle!!! Perry and Mayselle are Lori’s grandparents in Okemah, Oklahoma… Dave and I went to Barbara’s (Lori’s Mother) home in Noble, Oklahoma today. It is about sixty miles from our home. There were 21 of us there. Everyone had plenty to eat and left there with a take home box… Tonight we went to visit Kenny, Kathy, and Josh. This was Kathy’s first holiday without her Mother. Having Jamie and the kids come to visit helped her a lot… I have so much to be thankful for and I thank God for all of them… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma marylockhart@atlinkwifi.com

Allison is ten and Matthew is eight… We had Thanksgiving dinner today at Kenny and Kathy’s since Jamie and the kids are flying back home tomorrow. There were about eighteen of us there today for a wonderful dinner… I did two loads of laundry, took care of houseplants, and baked a cranberry/apple pie to take tomorrow to Barbara’s… Lori and Richard called… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma marylockhart@atlinkwifi.com

I got woken up early this morning with pain in my legs…
Jamie our granddaughter and Allison and Matthew our great grandchildren flew in from Kentucky last night. They are staying with Kenny and Kathy. I am looking forward to seeing them tonight… Kathy called tonight to let us know we had deer on our acreage so Dave and I ran outside to see them. There were four or five deer out there between our house and our next-door neighbors…
I have been in a deleting mood today. I am hoping I didn’t delete anything I wasn’t supposed to… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Dave and I went to Piedmont this afternoon to get our flu shots and meet Dr. Corman, our new doctor. He has just arrived to Piedmont and has a brand new office. We think we will like him. It was another pretty day… When I got home I made a meatloaf for supper… I have been enjoying playing dominoes at pogo again… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma…

It was a large party held at her parent's home. Madison got many nice gifts. I forgot my afternoon medicines again… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Happy Birthday Dewey!!! Dewey is our Bother-in-law in Clemmons, North Carolina… The guy came this morning to install our satellite Internet service. Dave and I are really happy with it. Not only is it fast but also now we can receive phone calls while we are both online and the best thing of all is we do not have to share anymore… I got quite a lot done today and so did Dave. It is surprising how much you can get done when you are not waiting and waiting to get online… The sun came out and the wind stopped so not near anything like it was yesterday… Kenny came down to help Dave move the aquarium out. Kenny picked out the shoes he wanted and I ordered them online. Then Dave and Kenny went to look for Josh a car. The dogs and I are here alone. I am not afraid out here at all… David called… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Brrrrr it is cold outside, 40 to 50 mph winds at times… Dave went to see the doctor today. It was a follow up for his kidney surgery. Doctor said everything looks good. He wants him to have a CT Scan the first of the year… We went to Tinker today to get groceries and pick up our prescriptions… We decided to do away with our aquarium. We were down to one three-inch cichlid. It was too much work for Dave to keep it clean. I now have a beta fish… We stopped on our way home at Subway and picked up our supper… Now I am drinking a cup of Cappuccino and watching Dancing With The Stars… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Happy Birthday Jake!!! Jake is our great grandson in Moore, Oklahoma… The people who are installing our Internet were to be here between 12:00 and 3:00, it is now 6:00 and they still haven’t showed up. Not that we are anxious or anything… The guy just called and had they ran into some problems at another site and had to reschedule us for Thursday since tomorrow we won’t be home… I fed the pansies outside, put my jewelry in a new jewelry box, picked up around the house, and help fix supper… Goodnight All.. Also stopped at Wade and Jan/Mina’s RV Park in Oklahoma to visit Jan and Wade our DASNI friends but Wade wasn’t at the campground. He was away on a business trip. Thanks to Aralee in Texas and Jan in Virginia for visiting Mary’s Place and signing my guest book at http://www.angelfire.com/ok4/mari5113/index.html
After a couple of days of 80-degree temperature, today it was back to November weather. I have had a great day. I picked up around the house, moved some houseplants around to a different location, and went to the afternoon chat… David and Lori came out to visit and show us their new mini cooper. David took me for a ride in it and we went fast. LOL This is their second mini cooper car… I fixed supper for them, a pork roast. Everyone enjoy it. Later Alfred called and said he and Martha were coming out with a pumpkin pie. So we all enjoyed pumpkin pie and coffee. This was our first pumpkin pie this year and it is my favorite pie… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

We are home!!! Dave and I got home on Tuesday just in time to vote and celebrate Heather’s 15th birthday. We all went to Smokey Bones. That was Heather’s choice… This has got to be my best vacation ever. We went to Louisville, Kentucky to see my brother George and Carol. While we were there George fixed four pounds of Great Northern Beans and cornbread and invited all my Singer cousins over. We had a great time. Then we went to Smithville, Tennessee where we had several days visiting Dave’s brother Richard. He took us all around Smithville to see the beautiful foliage. Central Tennessee is beautiful. While we were there Dave was standing on a big rock taking pictures and the rock gave way and Dave took a big tumble. It nearly scared me to death. He went to see the doctor because he thought he had broken his wrist. Doctor said it was a bad sprain. Dave had skinned up hands and knees. We are so happy that it wasn’t worse than it was… Next stop was Marietta, Georgia where we visited my friend of 55 years and her husband Dean. Helen and I went to school together. Dave and I used to double date with Dean and Helen. Helen and I giggled just like we did when we were teenagers. I don’t think I have laughed so hard in a long time… Our next stop was Tybee Island. We stayed seven days at an RV park just three blocks from the ocean and we made plenty of trips to the beach. We met up with our ADF friends in Savannah. They came in from all over the USA. This is the same group of friends we met up in Vancouver. This time there were thirteen of us… We traveled through Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Arkansas. Every state had some beautiful foliage. This time we really picked the right time to travel. We are usually too early to enjoy the beautiful foliage… I have been doing laundry since we got home and I finally finished up this afternoon… It is good to be home even though I didn’t want to leave Savannah… Our three dogs were great travelers but they are happy to be home… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma
