Mary's Place

A web page about the life of a lady who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Name:
Location: Piedmont, Oklahoma, United States

I live in Piedmont, OK, with my Husband of 50 years who has been very supportive. We have 2 sons,David and Kenny, 6 grandkids, and 6 great grandkids. I enjoy feeding and watching the birds and squirrels. Before I was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I ran a Licensed Day Care Home for Infants for 15 years. I noticed I wasn't able to remember important things and having problems with my speech. I was experiencing severe headaches. I would get lost. I didn't know how to use the computer. At the age of 55, I told my doctor. I was sent for an MRI. which showed a large amount of shrinkage. I went to a neurologist who sent me for two days of testing. I was diagnosed with dementia of the Alzheimer's type. My husband and I were both in shock. I had to give up my job. I went to see a social worker. I've taken Aricept for 11 years. I can now use the computer and even do this web page. I also host a chat room for dementia patients. This is a very lonely disease. I don't want anyone to feel as lonely as I did when I was diagnosed (I thought I was the only one over 50 that had Alzheimer's). In 2006 I started taking Namenda. Also I was told I have a mixed dementia, Alzheimer's/Vascular.

Josh in tux.

Today has been just beautiful… Josh came down this morning before I was out of bed and gave me a hug. Tonight is the prom and I know he is excited. We will go up tonight and take pictures before he leaves. I can’t wait to see him in his tux… I hosted the afternoon chat then I got on my scooter and went running around with the dogs. We went up to check on the garden and everything else. It all looks good… Richard called and Wesley and Norita left his home early this morning and should be back here tomorrow… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Mercy hospital called to schedule my MRI. I was so surprised when they scheduled it for a week from Sunday. I didn’t know they would do them on a Sunday…
This morning I saw a different bird in our back yard under the feeders. This one had a yellow head and a black body. I had never seen one like this so when I was in chat this afternoon I asked Lynne what kind it was and she said it was a yellow head black bird. Lynne knows her birds… Dave took Cindy in to be groomed early this morning while I was still sleeping but I went with him to pick her up. Karmelita and Shiloh rode with us. They don’t often get to go for a car ride. Cindy got a summer cut and looks so tiny… I did laundry and fixed lunch and helped fix supper… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

This morning as I was going out the back door to go to the garden. I noticed two geese walking in our back yard. I had never seen geese here before. I was thinking about getting my camera so I could take a picture when Shiloh spotted them and she felt it was her duty to chase them off... I walked up to the garden and saw more vegetables peeking out of the ground. Then I walked around and checked all the trees. I was worried about a couple of them since they didn't look very good after our last freeze but after checking I saw new growth on them. Then I came in and got most of the house plants and took them out to the back porch. I fed the tomato and pepper plants and all the flowers in the back yard.... Jan/Mina surprised us today and showed up in our DASNI chat room. Jan/Mina was one of DASNI originals. I first met Jan in Montana where we were forming DASNI... Goodnight All... Happy Belated Birthday, Marie!!! Marie is our friend in Miami, Florida… I slept for twelve hours last night. I must have been really tired. I know I was quite grouchy last night… My roses are starting to bloom and the peonies and iris’s have buds… I can’t wait to go check on the garden. It is too muddy for my scooter right now since we had a good rain yesterday and I would hate to get stuck in the mud… I hosted both DASNI chats. We are getting new chatters all the time. Already this week we have gotten 5 new members to DASNI… My brother called this morning… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Thanks Susan for visiting Mary’s Place and signing my guest book…
Wesley and Norita left early this morning on their way to Tennessee. We had a wonderful visit. They will be stopping by here on their way home to California so we will get a few more days with them… I have had a very busy day. Our weather radio went off saying Tornado Watch and then next it was saying Tornado Warning. Our next-door neighbors don’t have a storm shelter so Dave called Billie and told her to bring the babies and come on over to our storm room and they did. There were Dave and me, three dogs, and Billie and her three little ones. The new baby will be a week old tomorrow and she is so sweet and while we were out there I got to feed her a bottle. That made my day… I washed two loads of clothes and got them all put away. Then I went with Josh to get fitted for his Tux… I am really tired tonight… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

I hadn’t been up long when Kathy called this morning and wanted me to supervise Dave and her planting the garden. So I got on my scooter and away I went. I love to supervise. They finished planting the rest of the seeds and more stuff is coming up… The dogs love it when I am on my scooter, they follow me everywhere I go. Sometimes I will give them a ride… I hosted both chats and folded laundry… Wesley called and he and Norita should be here tomorrow. We are really looking forward to their visit… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Dave woke me up early this morning because the maids were coming. I didn’t want to wake up because I was still very tired from yesterday. The maids did a good job and while they were here Dave was outside cleaning the windows and screens. Thanks Dave I don’t tell you often enough how much I appreciate all you do… While I was having lunch I saw my first hummingbird at the feeder for this year. That made my day… I washed a couple loads of clothes, now to get them folded and I hosted both of the DASNI chats… It was in the 80’s and very windy today… Kathy called… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma marylockhart@atlinkwifi.com

Today is the twelfth anniversary of the OKC bombing. It also was twelve years ago that I received my diagnoses of Alzheimer. So I am celebrating that I am still around to do my journal and aggravate my husband… We made it to the commissary and pharmacy today. That trip really wears me out… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Dave and I were going to go to Tinker Air Force Base today to get more groceries and to the pharmacy. We were a couple miles away and I realized it was the third Wednesday of the month and that is the day that the pharmacy is closed so we will try again tomorrow… I did laundry and got it all folded and put away. Hosted both afternoon and evening chats… Our tomato plants were standing in water last night. Now they are in mud. I hope they will be okay. We have things coming up in the garden from the seeds Dave planted… I am still watching my strawberry pot for signs of green… Josh came down tonight and we watched a movie together... It has rained most of the day and turned chilly. I had to hunt for a sweater… I hosted the afternoon DASNI chat.,. It has been one of those days. Not much accomplished… The Schwan man came and we have now got our original guy back. His name is Robert Redford and we really like him. I gave him a good order… Lori called and they have a new calf named Georgette. Sorry George if it had been a boy you would have had your namesake. LOL George is my brother… Jeanne in Hawaii called… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Another beautiful day… Dave and I got our vegetable and flower plants in the ground. I hope they will be safe from the frost and freezing temperatures now… I pulled weeds and got some starts from the Passion Vine to share with a neighbor. Did laundry and fixed lunch and supper… Dave took all the things down from the top of the kitchen cabinets and cleaned them. We are starting to spring clean a little late but we will get it done… David called, he was fixing to go out and see if he had a new calf. Girtie was due to have a calf. Girtie’s last calf was named Mary Edith after me. The way David talks Mary Edith is always getting into mischief. LOL… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

It was a beautiful day with a lot of sunshine and little wind… I cleaned the bathroom, filled the bird feeders, and fixed supper… Yesterday I forgot to say that I was thinking of my friend Rosalie who I hadn’t heard from in a long time. I called her son with whom she lived and he told me she passed away in September. No one let me know. David, her son said that her daughter was supposed to have called me but she didn’t. I met Rosalie at International Spa back in the 80’s where we went to exercise four times a week. She was a good friend and I will miss her… Yesterday there was a redheaded woodpecker sitting on one of our birdhouses, he was so colorful. Also we had nine doves under our bird feeder. I love the doves… Dave and Kenny flew their planes this afternoon and evening… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Happy Birthday Bill!!! Bill is our favorite nephew in Ohio… Thanks to Martha and Al in Bethany, Oklahoma and Candi in Wichita, Kansas for visiting Mary’s Place and signing my guest book… Richard called this morning, he has had three radiation treatments so far and it is making him very tired… The sun finally came out and Dave and I got out of the house and did some retail therapy. We went to the TLC Nursery and left there with a bunch of flowers and more vegetable plants. Then we went out to eat at our favorite Mexican Restaurant… Goodnight All… Keeping the Faith In Oklahoma

Last night was very stormy. The weather radio woke us up twice to let us know of severe thunderstorms. So needless to say none of us got a good night’s sleep… I had to leave chat early because of more thunderstorms this afternoon… I was caught up on the laundry and it was rainy outside so the dust wasn’t showing up so I decided to go take a nap and I actually did fall asleep… When I woke up form my nap Dave had supper ready. He had fixed his famous Spam Supreme. What a husband I have… I hosted the evening chat and I am hoping the storms are gone. We got plenty of rain with this one… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

I wasn’t able to post my blog last night because Blogger site was down. It was back up this morning… The Top Alzheimer’s/Caregiver Site is working again so if you would like to vote for Mary’s Place go here to vote http://www.angelfire.com/ok4/mari5113/index.html… I did laundry again today and dusted our bedroom… Dave had a dental appointment this afternoon. I went to chat and after chat was finished I went and laid down for a while. I tried to go to sleep but I couldn’t so I got up and started supper and it was all done when Dave walked in the door. My timing was perfect… I wish winter would leave and spring would come back. They are talking snow for this weekend. I want to get the tomato plants in the ground but that isn’t going to happen for a while… I have been so tired today… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Last night's journal

Dave’s friend came out to visit this afternoon. His wife didn’t come with him. I was quite hurt by this. Is it because I have Alzheimer’s that people avoid me? … I am sure thankful for my DASNI friends.. They understand me but it would be nice to have friends with skin too… I finished up the laundry today and hosted two chat’s… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

I woke up this morning thinking about the beans and corn bread that Kathy sent home with us last night and I could hardly wait till lunchtime… Dave had to help me with the strawberry pot. There were too many steps for me to follow. I have the same problem following recipes. But now that the seeds are all planted I can handle the strawberries from now on. The Race is on to beat Kathy. It would help if the sun would shine so I could set it in direct sunlight… It has been cloudy and misty today. I got out and walked in the mist… I did a couple loads of laundry and will finish up tomorrow… It is raining now and tornado warnings in the state… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

So good that I had to have seconds… I watched Dancing with the Stars with Kathy. Kathy bought me a strawberry pot that came with the soil and seeds. She has one just like it and we are going to see who can grow the best strawberries… I hosted the afternoon DASNI chat and Duchess did the evening chat. I got home tonight just in time to tell everyone in the chat room goodnight… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Easter Egg Hunt

Happy Easter!!! We had to leave early this morning for our trip to Barbara’s. Dinner was to be at noon and she lives in Noble, Oklahoma, about an hour and a half from our home… I think there were 23 there. The dinner was delicious. Barbara, her Mother, and daughter’s are great cooks… After dinner all the kids waited for the Easter Bunny to hide the eggs and then they all ran out to hunt them. Brought back great memories of when the boys were little and also when I was a child going to my grandparents home for Easter Sunday… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Our Internet went down last night and when Dave called to report it they said it would probably be down till Monday. But it came back on this afternoon… I woke up feeling pretty rough this morning. I spent most of the day in bed… Alfred and Martha called to say they were coming out. I hadn’t even gotten dressed when they called so I hurried and got presentable. They brought their granddaughter Gracie with them. It was nice seeing Gracie and them again… I baked an apple pie to take to Barbara’s house tomorrow… I watched movies and played dominoes… This evening I caught myself trying to put a gallon of milk in the microwave instead of the refrigerator. LOL it is a good thing that it didn’t fit… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

When I woke up this morning Dave told me it was snowing. I did make a pot of chili soup for supper… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Dave went to the dentist again so I had a ME afternoon… While I was eating lunch I saw my first Monarch for the year… The wind is sure doing a job on the tulips and poppies… I started cleaning the windows but it wasn’t long till I gave out. I wish I had some energy. After a little rest I folded laundry and put that away, hosted the afternoon DASNI chat, and got out the hummingbird feeders.
