It has been like grand central station here today. The Nurse’s aide came, then the physical therapist, and then the nurse came. Nurse’s aide helped with making the bed and dusting, PT gave me ultra sound treatment to neck, shoulders, and lower back, and the nurse gave me my vitamin b/12 injection. I managed to do three loads of laundry in between their visits, chat with friends in the chat room, and fixed lunch and supper… I think I am starting to feel better just after 19 pills of the prednisone… Jan, and old DASNI friend called me and it sure was good catching up with her… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma
Mary's Place
A web page about the life of a lady who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
About Me
- Name: Mary Lockhart
- Location: Piedmont, Oklahoma, United States
I live in Piedmont, OK, with my Husband of 50 years who has been very supportive. We have 2 sons,David and Kenny, 6 grandkids, and 6 great grandkids. I enjoy feeding and watching the birds and squirrels. Before I was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I ran a Licensed Day Care Home for Infants for 15 years. I noticed I wasn't able to remember important things and having problems with my speech. I was experiencing severe headaches. I would get lost. I didn't know how to use the computer. At the age of 55, I told my doctor. I was sent for an MRI. which showed a large amount of shrinkage. I went to a neurologist who sent me for two days of testing. I was diagnosed with dementia of the Alzheimer's type. My husband and I were both in shock. I had to give up my job. I went to see a social worker. I've taken Aricept for 11 years. I can now use the computer and even do this web page. I also host a chat room for dementia patients. This is a very lonely disease. I don't want anyone to feel as lonely as I did when I was diagnosed (I thought I was the only one over 50 that had Alzheimer's). In 2006 I started taking Namenda. Also I was told I have a mixed dementia, Alzheimer's/Vascular.

This morning Dave and I were up early to go for our doctor appointments. Dave went to see Dr. Seres for a follow up appointment on the procedure he had done. He was told he had Barretts Esophagus. The doctor said they caught it early so that is a good thing.
I had the snow crab legs and steak and Dave had the seafood platter. It was really good. The waitress was so sweet she put on gloves and helped me crack the snow crab legs. She could do it better than me and I really appreciated her. I may still be there if it weren’t for her help… I went to see Dr. Fixley. He said I had a bad case of Asthma. He started me on Prednisone. I started out with ten pills today, nine tomorrow, and eight the next day and so on till they are all gone. If I am not better in a week I am to call him… I did a load of laundry and that is it for today. I hope I feel better tomorrow… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Well, I am overstuffed and over stimulated. I don’t know how many people were there today but there were a bunch and with lots of kids. I cleaned the bathroom, did two loads of laundry, went to the DASNI chat to rest, and fixed supper… Dave gave all four dogs a bath and while we were outside enjoying the weather he cut their nails and I brushed the dogs. It was a beautiful day, 79 degrees… There was a 4.2 Magnitude Earthquake in the Oklahoma City area this evening... I am baking an apple pie for tomorrow to take to Kenny and Kathy’s house… I have so much to be thankful for. I am thankful for my family and friends and for a beautiful home. I have been busy as a bee today… I have been clearing a path for the maids visit tomorrow. I did laundry, took care of the houseplants, fixed our supper, and chatted with my friends in the DASNI chat room. We had people from England, Ireland, Tennessee, Hawaii, Ohio, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and one that I never caught where she was from. I don’t know what I would do without my friends in chat. It seems like all my local friends have forgotten me. I guess they are just too busy… Dave went to Edmond to get stuff for our lawn… Tonight I got in the whirlpool tub for a nice bubble bath. It may be my last time to get in the tub, as I wasn’t able to sit down so I just dropped. Then when it was time to get out I thought it wasn’t going to happen. Dave worked and worked with me to get me out. I was so afraid he was going to have to call 911… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma
