Mary's Place

A web page about the life of a lady who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Name:
Location: Piedmont, Oklahoma, United States

I live in Piedmont, OK, with my Husband of 50 years who has been very supportive. We have 2 sons,David and Kenny, 6 grandkids, and 6 great grandkids. I enjoy feeding and watching the birds and squirrels. Before I was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I ran a Licensed Day Care Home for Infants for 15 years. I noticed I wasn't able to remember important things and having problems with my speech. I was experiencing severe headaches. I would get lost. I didn't know how to use the computer. At the age of 55, I told my doctor. I was sent for an MRI. which showed a large amount of shrinkage. I went to a neurologist who sent me for two days of testing. I was diagnosed with dementia of the Alzheimer's type. My husband and I were both in shock. I had to give up my job. I went to see a social worker. I've taken Aricept for 11 years. I can now use the computer and even do this web page. I also host a chat room for dementia patients. This is a very lonely disease. I don't want anyone to feel as lonely as I did when I was diagnosed (I thought I was the only one over 50 that had Alzheimer's). In 2006 I started taking Namenda. Also I was told I have a mixed dementia, Alzheimer's/Vascular.

Our condolences go out to Rachel on the loss of her father Rev. Fisher. He was our neighbor for about 25 years… I woke in time to watch the church services because the phone rang. I may have missed it if it weren’t for the phone call… I hosted the DASNI chat, watched several movies, played dominoes, took care of the house plants, and helped fix supper… I keep forgetting to mention that we are expecting a new great grandbaby. Kerry and Erin are expecting and I am so looking forward to a new baby. Our youngest grandbaby now is Macey who is four. The new baby will make seven great grandchildren… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Happy Birthday Jenni!!! Jenni is our granddaughter in Moore, Oklahoma...
Thanks Kenny for signing my guest book at http://www.angelfire.com/ok4/mari5113/index.html
Another sleepless night. I don’t know if this is caused by the moon or because I am excited about Santa… I watched church services on TV this morning. Today doesn’t seem like it should be Sunday to me… I did laundry, took care of the house plants, cleaned the bathroom, and fixed a pot of chili… Neighbors continue to bring in homemade goodies… Goodnight all… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

I had a horrible night last night for some reason I just couldn’t get to sleep. I tried counting sheep, counting my blessings, nothing seemed to work… Our power failed this morning and was out for a few hours. I was praying that it would come back on and finally it did. It has been snowing and the north wind is blowing so it is quite cold here, down in the 20’s… I helped Dave fix supper, played computer games, and went to the DASNI chat room at http://alzheimers.ning.com/chatroom.php to chat with my friends … Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

I didn’t wake up till 1:00 this afternoon. Shopping must have really worn me out… It got up to the upper sixties today but it was real windy. I got on my scooter and took the dogs out for a run. Then we saw Josh out with his dogs so we went up there and sat on their porch visiting and watching them frame the house going up across the street from us. They are really going to town on that house and we heard it was going to be over 3400 sq ft… The weather man is saying we will get snow tomorrow. Probably why I am aching so much… Dave and I are enjoying the new TV show Duel… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

I am back… First my internet was down because of the ice storm. Then my ac/adaptor died and I am waiting on a new one to come in. I was just about to have a pity party for being off line for so long when my friend Martha who has the same laptop as I do offered to lend me her adaptor… It was a pretty day today so Dave and I got out and did some shopping then we went to the Mexican Restaurant in Piedmont and had supper… It felt so good to be back in the DASNI chat room this afternoon with my friends… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

It was almost one’ oclock this morning when Dave woke me up. I have been having trouble with asthma and I must have needed the extra sleep… I had recorded my church services so I didn’t miss out on it… I watched Shrek The Third again and also watched a Lifetime movie “The Christmas Shoes.” I had told myself I wasn’t going to cry but I did… Dave spent the day working on his airplane and I taught him how to make chili… David and Carole in Missouri called… Our neighbors Sean and Billlie brought us some homemade nutbread and it was yummy… Goodnight Alll… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Some Old Lady and her Dogs... Shiloh, Cindy, and Karmelita.

I got up early this morning to get ready for the maids, did a load of laundry, cleaned up the kitchen, and repotted some houseplants. They came and now our house is clean again. I sent them off with a Christmas gift for each one of them… This has been a dreary day misting rain and foggy. They are talking about an ice storm. I sure hope we don’t lose power… I have watched a couple Netflix movies, Shrek the Third and Tony Bennett the Music Never Ends… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Happy Birthday Chris!!! Chris is our grandson in Oklahoma City… We had to go back to town today. The cashier yeterday made a mistake and I caught it after we got home last night… We then went to Mike’s Hobby Shop so Dave could get something for the plane he is building. Then we went to the Chistmas party at Harry’s TV. This is an every year thing we have done for eighteen years. They serve delicious egg nog, spiced cider, homemade cookies and popcorn. They also give free calendars and a houseplant… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

I did a load of laundry and went to the DASNI chat… After chat Dave and I got ready to go shopping… We needed to get some gifts and though I love giving I hate the part of making decisions on what to buy… After we finished shopping we called Alfred and Martha and went by to visit them. Alfred’s hands were blistered and his mouth is sore because of the medication he has to take for his cancer. I feel so bad for him… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Happy Birthday Robert!!! Robert is our great nephew in Ohio who turns 14 today… Happy Birthday Lynne!!! Lynne is a DASNI friend in Iowa Park, Texas… Happy Anniversary Ben and Bethel!!! Ben and Bethel are our friends in Irving, Texas… Today has been a beautiful day with plenty of sunshine and very little wind… After chat I got on my scooter and went outside for some Vitamin D. The dogs enjoyed having me outside with them. I watched the cows and donkeys across the highway and they watched me. I was outside when Josh came home from school so I got a quick hug from him before he had to hurry off and get ready for work… We had beans and cornbread for supper… A beautiful sunset tonight… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

I didn’t get out of bed until this afternoon… I had to watch “Pictures of Hollis Woods” over again. Last night I was having a hard time following it. So I watched it over again today. It was a lady with Alzheimer’s “ME” watching a movie about a lady with Alzheimer’s. The second time around I understood it. I love having a DVR, I often wonder what I did without it… I don’t often talk about my life with Alzheimer’s. After having it for over 12 years, it has gotten to seem normal. You just deal with it… I did laundry and picked up around the house… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

It has been a quiet day here… I attended church services on TV again… All day I have been thinking about the 20 year old lady and her unborn child who was found dead in a shallow grave in Bethany on Friday. My thoughts and prayers are with her family… Tonight I will watch “Pictures of Hollis Woods” on television… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma
