Mary's Place

A web page about the life of a lady who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Name:
Location: Piedmont, Oklahoma, United States

I live in Piedmont, OK, with my Husband of 50 years who has been very supportive. We have 2 sons,David and Kenny, 6 grandkids, and 6 great grandkids. I enjoy feeding and watching the birds and squirrels. Before I was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I ran a Licensed Day Care Home for Infants for 15 years. I noticed I wasn't able to remember important things and having problems with my speech. I was experiencing severe headaches. I would get lost. I didn't know how to use the computer. At the age of 55, I told my doctor. I was sent for an MRI. which showed a large amount of shrinkage. I went to a neurologist who sent me for two days of testing. I was diagnosed with dementia of the Alzheimer's type. My husband and I were both in shock. I had to give up my job. I went to see a social worker. I've taken Aricept for 11 years. I can now use the computer and even do this web page. I also host a chat room for dementia patients. This is a very lonely disease. I don't want anyone to feel as lonely as I did when I was diagnosed (I thought I was the only one over 50 that had Alzheimer's). In 2006 I started taking Namenda. Also I was told I have a mixed dementia, Alzheimer's/Vascular.

It was another day in the 80’s and I love it… I did laundry and hosted chat then we went to town to run some errands and get groceries… The doctor’s office called while we were gone… Goodnight All.. Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

We got over two inches of rain during the night. Our grass is greening up and the trees are happy. The garden is muddier. I saw deer tracks when I was up there today. Kathy said they have been eating the okra… We waited all day for the doctor’s office to call. The doctor told Dave they would call today and let him know about the lab work but they didn’t. GRRRR… It was a beautiful day in the 80’s. I spent a lot of time outside with the dogs. The Passion Vine is huge and is loaded with flowers. Also the Bees Jubilee Clematis is blooming… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

We ended up getting a good rain last night and looks like we are in for more tonight… Dave had an appointment this morning for the gout in his feet. It is very painful and he can barely walk.. He came home and went to bed and I had to wake him up four hours later when I had supper ready. I made some nectar for the hummingbirds and filled their feeder. I really enjoy watching the hummingbirds come to the feeder and fight over it… I went up to check on the garden and it was very muddy… Josh called, he was on his way home from a orientation for his new job… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

We thought we were going to get more rain today but it didn’t happen. It came close though. We saw a beautiful rainbow while we were eating our supper… I have been very lazy today… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

We got rain and it was only 74 degrees today. I went to the mailbox in the rain and loved it… My scooter is fixed, I don’t know what Dave did but it is working again… I cleaned the bathroom, picked up around the house, chatted with my friends, and did laundry until I saw the bottom of the hamper and they are all folded and put away… George and Kenny called… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

My scooter quit on me this morning. I will call the people I got it from tomorrow and to see if they can fix it. I sure hope they can because I would be lost without it… We have been showing the motor home today. A couple came this morning and another couple are on their way to look at it… We took Kenny and Kathy to Shogun’s Steak House and it was delicious. I brought home as much food as I ate. I know what is for dinner tomorrow… David called from Houston and he and Lori attended a baseball game down there… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

It was after 11:00 when I woke up. I have been sleeping between 10 and 12 hours a night… Today I helped Dave unload the basement of the motor home… Tonight Kenny came down and took us for a ride and for an ice cream… It was over 100 degrees today… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

It was a very warm day, in the upper 90’s… I folded clothes that were left in the dryer from a few days ago, fixed lunch, and supper… Going through stuff we brought in from the motor home and trying to decide what to keep, what to donate, and what to toss. Tonight after the sun went down and it was cooler, I watered the flowers, shrubs, and trees and pulled weeds… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

I have taken it easy today. I hosted the DASNI chat and this afternoon we showed the motor home to a very nice couple. If we sell it, we are going to really miss it. We have been motor homing since 1995. Dave only having one eye it is a bit much for him to drive something so big… This evening I visited with Kenny and Kathy… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

I have been busy today. I did laundry, cleaned the bathroom, and ran the Swiffer Sweeper. I love the Swiffer Sweeper, it is so easy for me to use on the hardwood and ceramic tile floors. I made us bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwiches for lunch and fixed supper with strawberry shortcake for dessert… Dave gave the dogs a bath and cleaned up the kitchen… Hi to Norma in California… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Yesterday I chatted with my online friends. They were from Hawaii, Ireland, Brazil, Canada, Ohio, and Oklahoma. I hope I didn’t leave anyone out… After chat Dave and I went to Sam’s and spent a lot of money. We were out of everything or at least it seemed that way. We also made a stop at Wal-Mart, Braum’s, and took our car through the car wash… Kathy came down and brought us squash and okra from the garden… I was really hurting all over last night so I went to bed early not even thinking of writing in my journal. It was a stormy night and I think that must have been why I was so achy… This morning Josh came by and spent some time with us. I always enjoy spending time with him… Tonight Dave and I gave the motor home a good cleaning… I am thinking I will be going to bed early tonight also. At least I remembered to do an entry here… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

I am back and I didn’t intend to be away for so long… I have had so many people asking when I was going to do my journal again that I thought I had better do one… Dave and I had a visitor last month; Tony who is an Internet friend and comes to our chat room came over from Ireland and met with us. We really enjoyed our short visit with him… Today we had another visitor, Gayle who was a neighbor years ago and now lives in Washington state came to visit and it was sure good seeing her again… Dave and I just returned from a vacation… We went to Louisville, Kentucky and visited with my brother George and his friend Mary. Then we went to Huntington, West Virginia to visit with Dave’s brother Bob and his wife Margot and Dave’s sister Lucy. Judy, his sister drove up from North Carolina when she heard we were going to be in Huntington. We saw several nieces and a nephew while we were in West Virginia and we attended Dave’s 50th class reunion… Our next stop was in Westerville, Ohio where we visited Dave’s brother Howard and nephew, Bill… While we were in Westerville a couple of online friends from the DASNI chat room Duchess and husband Vince and Sandy and her husband Joe met us at a hotel and we had a nice dinner together. Online friends are the greatest… On our way home we stopped in Missouri and Carole, another DASNI friend met us at a Burger King. Dave really wanted a whopper. Carole and I had a nice but short visit… We got home on Thursday evening. It is good to be home… Kenny looked after our home and watched three of our dogs for us. We took Shiloh with us. Thank You Kenny… I don’t know if I will do a journal everyday but I will try… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma
